Chatting it up with Ernie Hudson
Hey there Darlings! Been a while I know. Lot’s of crazy busy stuff. Family gone crazy, Seras get’s a mortal job, the little Psychotik figured out how to vaporate, and some how a Carnivorous Raglefant Troll from my laboratory. By the way if you live in Florida and see this very large creature with very large teeth…I advise you to run as fast as you can. Getting back to business, I have a very special interview to hand over. At Fatality Fest back in June I had the pleasure of meeting the one and only Ernie Hudson. I was thrilled! This man is in two of my top all favorite movies of all time. It was such an honor to meet such a film icon. So get the proton packs ready, and don’t cross the streams….

Malice Psychotik: You are in my top 2 favorite films, The Ghostbusters and The Crow. But your career goes a lot further than that. Do you have any personal favorites out of all the movies you have done?
Ernie Hudson: No I just like to work and some films turn out a little better than others but I just enjoy working. The Ghostbusters movies, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Congo, The Crow I love those. You always put your best in and some turn out good and some don’t.
MP: One of the biggest debates between Ghostbusters fans is, which one is better 1 or 2. Was there one that you liked better?
EH: I think the first movie was more original. I think it was actually a great movie. The second one was more family friendly but not as creative. So for different reasons I like them both but I just thought the first was really out of the box and just really original. The second one wasn’t as original but little kids find it much more accessible.
MP: The video game, what sort of experience was it? You guys hadn’t been together in so long.
EH: Yeah I think we all love the franchise and we all got together. I was happy and surprised they got Bill Murray to do it. But they did. It was nice to come together again and put something out there for the fans. I wish we could have followed through and did the third movie. That has yet to happen but it was great being a part of the game and it turned out to be very popular with the fans and that’s good.
MP: You mentioned Ghostbusters 3. I know you can’t really trust most movie buzz going around but have you heard of a script or anything in the works?
EH: No I hear from time to time from Danny Aykroyd. I talk to all the guys including Ivan Reitman so I think everyone wants it to happen but getting everyone to agree on exactly what, that’s been the problem. I hope they can pull it together. I think the fans have been great, supportive and I think they are ready for it. They would love to see it.
MP: I had looked through your IMDB and saw a little known fact that you were up for the role of The Master in “Doctor Who”. How did you come across that? Are you a big “Doctor Who” fan?
EH: Not a real big fan. I mean I’m aware of the franchise and I had heard that I was being considered but of course it never happened. I think Eric Roberts ended up doing the part. But that would have been nice, would have been fun. Then when they did “Torchwood” which is an American spinoff, they asked me to be a part of that if the series went but the series didn’t go. But it would have been fun to be a part of that.
MP: What do you think you would have brought to the role of The Master? The Master’s character is such a sinister villain and you tend to play a heroic, very nice guy. What depth do you think you could have added to the character?
EH: Well I think nice guys make the best villains and sometimes the villains can make the best nice guys. I think it’s very hard for an actor to get locked into a certain thing. I have done a number of movies where you play the other side. It’s always interesting and I think it would have been an interesting challenge to give that character a different dimension. Obviously me and Eric Roberts are two very different people. I love his work but it would have been interesting to explore that.
MP: I have noticed that in your roles you play a police officer a lot. In Miss Congeniality you play the director of the FBI, The Crow you play Sergeant Albrecht, and there have been several others. Is that a personal preference for you?
EH: No, most actors don’t really get into personal preferences. You take the jobs that are there and available in front of you. Actors talk about well I turned this down and most actors don’t turn anything down. There’s not that much work out there. A lot of times people will take my voice, my physique I’m sure it probably comes off very authoritative and that translates into authoritarian roles. Be it a principal, warden, whatever. The FBI guy, the CIA guy and so I think that’s where a lot of that comes from. I have been very fortunate to play other roles. I think it has more to do with physicality than anything. I try to be as flexible and try as many different things as I can.
MP: I read that you like writing. What sort of things do you like to write? Screenplays, short stories, etc.
EH: I started out as a play write. I got a scholarship to Yale as a play writing student back in the 70’s. I still write. I’m working on Jack Johnson the first black heavyweight champion “One Man Show” I’m writing that. Still working on the script but hopefully I can get that out there soon. Writing was very much a part of my life for a while. Then I sort of got more involved in acting trying to raise my family. But now that I have more time, I want to get into that side of my career.
MP: I had one question about The Crow but I know usually that is a tender subject. Do you mind?
EH: No, no! Whatever it doesn’t matter. The Crow, if it was going to be Brandon’s last movie I am very happy that I was there and I have nothing but great love and respect for him and his memory. So I don’t have a problem talking about it.

MP: How did you come across the role of Albrecht?
EH: Well, I’m sure Brandon probably had a lot to do with it. I had known him for about 8 years and I know he wanted me to play that role. I thought it was a great role! I liked the character. I don’t think any actor knows how they get anything. How they got this part, that part. Maybe some who could say I got this from who knows what. As an actor, you’re out there and you try to get the role. I can’t honestly say Brandon got me the role. It could be any number of reasons.
MP: Did you ever read the comic books before you took the role?
EH: No. When I was a kid I read the Marvel comic books and some of the DC stuff but I’m not really into it. I was a single parent at 19. I raised 2 sons and so most of my life has been trying to keep a roof over their head. I never was much into the comics. I never read The Crow. Obviously once I got the role I got into it but not before.
MP: One last question just kind of out there. Fitting with Ghostbusters, do you actually believe in ghosts?
EH: I believe in the possibility. I can’t sit here and tell you that I saw a ghost clearly last night and they said to say hello. I think there are other dimensions around us that we are yet to understand or even be able to comprehend. It’s like a computer. If you have one of those old computers that are very limited, it can’t process the newer stuff. Because it doesn’t have the capability. We have 5 senses and that’s it. I believe the universe is infinite so who knows how many other senses there are. In our realm of 5 senses it doesn’t exist. I think it would be very foolish to believe there is not something else going on. So I believe in the possibility but it’s not something that I go around in pursuit of. I’m not fascinated by it. I figure sooner or later we’ll all know for sure.

Wasn’t that just….OH MY GOD ERNIE HUDSON!!! Well I got that out. I really do hope I never loose that light when I meet a celebrity for the first time. Such a good feeling. The ironic thing is of course in most cases I’ve met the actually character they portrayed. That is a story for another time though Darlings. Review of Fatality Fest 2013…What a Weekend!
Unless some of you have been living under a rock or just not paying any attention, you know that I paid a visit to Fatality Fest 2013 last weekend. It’s taken me a bit to write this because I wanted to fully take everything in and really give a good approach to present it to you all. We had such fun! Hands down one of the best times I have had at a horror convention. The people rocked, the guests rocked, the area was cool as shit…Can’t say enough good things at this point. But how do I convey this? I just feel writing a short review will not do the weekend any justice at all….not only that but that seems to be what everyone else has done as well (Post included) Nope, I hold myself to a much higher standard than just that. I feel I not only owe you, the reader more, but I owe the rest of the fine people who took the time to put together a top-notch show that as well. So let’s take this day by day shall we? Yes, I think we shall…
Day 1: June 7, 2013
Day one the weather was a bit dreary. A Tropical Storm decided to rear its ugly head and it almost looked as if the weekend was going to be a wash. I was very pleased as I arrived at the event to see the lovely girls from ADA Management looking back at me from down the hallway. Rain or shine…the show must go on. I love that attitude. The venue was a very large hotel. When I say Large I mean the hotel shot straight up rather than take up more space girth wise. Very swank looking, and was pleased to find the whole thing was delightfully air-conditioned. We found ourselves in a lovely room on the 9th floor Elite level, thanks to partner Derek Shembarger from Infinite Focus Photography (He really saved the day that weekend and made the whole trip possible.)After settling in..it was time for…the Zombie Walk!
Right as we started heading to the Zombie Walk…rain. The Zombie Walk was to be held at the Mellow Mushroom at City Place. Sadly that did get washed out. Apparently no one wanted to Zombie in the rain (Not that I blame them, but come on people commitment!) We decided to sit down to eat anyway. I wasn’t too fond of the food. I found it to be a bit overpriced and just not worth my money. I’ll save that for later though…It really was a shame to see it not happen. The team member that was there apologized. I didn’t see it as a big deal. Taking the weather into consideration, day one was still technically in the tail end of a storm. Back to the convention center it was…except for more rain…and we were on foot…sigh…
Back at the convention area, Seras decided to freshen up, and dry off, while Derek and myself scoped it all out. I checked to see what vendors were here and what was going on. When Seras had joined up, we hit the celebrity room for some autographs. Picked up Butch Patrick, Oliver Robbins, and Jazzy charmed Raven to death and scored a free autograph. I had managed to take a peek at the dealer’s room. Jazzy didn’t like something in there and I don’t know what it was, but she wouldn’t go in. She got a little fussy, so I tagged Seras in and we retreated for some Father Daughter time. She spread the good word with a lot of the guests. She was deeply impressed with everyone she talked to as they were all very approachable. She even got her very first celebrity interview ever with Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster). She was nervous, but she did great.
When she came back up for the night and I took storm, I found the same thing to be true. Celebrity guests were very approachable. Ended up with an epic picture of Christopher Judge in my hat! I pretty well finished up by enjoying the dealer’s room and setting up interviews for the next day. I didn’t see a whole lot of traffic, but again…Tropical Storm Andrea was still pulling away. Overall a very fun relaxing first day.
Editor Note: The Event schedule wasn’t printed at the time. To be honest, everybody that was there was able to ask event staff and they knew when and where to go. Good save! Most conventions Staff doesn’t know their ass from a whole in the ground…
Day 2: June 8, 2013
Day two was a bit more busy. Had a full list things to do. Interviews, Dealers Room, VIP later…Derek did movie screenings and Q & A’s. Seras checked out in detail some more of the vendors and the Ernie Hudson Q & A. Good news was, we had an event schedule! One of the main things we were looking to cover was the Costume contest. The Costume contest was small, but then again not many people looked to be in the full festive mood of costuming. Of the four you had a woman dressed as a comic book character I didn’t recognize off-hand (I’m terrible forgot to ask), Two Jasons, and Jazmin as Bat Girl. Jonathan Tiersten was the judge. He announced that because he was heterosexual the woman won for the Adults. Since Jazmin was the only child, she won for the kids (SHE WOULD HAVE WON ANYWAY!!!). The crowd egged him on to choose which was best between the Jasons. The one with the undermask won. I was surprised the Ghostbusters that were there didn’t join in…but hey…what can you do.

Moving on, according to Derek, the movie showings were very nice. Hopefully he will have some reviews coming up soon for those. Q & A’s were very down to Earth…kind of like bull shitting with the stars…but I like that. We were able to see the vendor room and really appreciate it. I liked that it wasn’t the same nonsense. You had lot’s of home-made things. Lot’s of crafts and food. It was very different and refreshing. I get sick of the same old shit. Nothing more annoying than walking into a dealer room and seeing t-shirt, t-shirt, figure, t-shirt, figure, figure, t-shirt, bootleg DVD, bootleg DVD…etc. etc. ad nauseam! We will have more on the dealer’s room as the days pass. Still compiling info. Stay tuned!

I would love to spend more time on the celeb’s and interviews but I have gotten so many of them…I don’t want to wear you thin. Instead I will move on to the VIP party. I was late, we caught a later dinner at Grease on Klamatis (review coming soon!) I only caught the tail end. Everyone was having fun though. Derek made it there in time, he said it was awesome sauce. Personally I thought the addition of karaoke would have been nice. I’m never going to forget seeing Dee Wallace cut a rug. Elliot’s Mom can dance! I wasn’t able to attend the after after party…ah…being a parent (Next time though…next time!) Derek was able to attend that though. He said it was off the chain at Off the Hookah. Nothing like getting a buzz with Leatherface (Andrew Bryniarski). Saturday was a success!

Day 3: June 9, 2013
The saddest day of any convention is the last. It wasn’t really too busy that day. Then again most Sundays aren’t happy. It signifies the end of a great weekend. We didn’t really get into a whole lot that day. I can say this, the celebrities were mingling with everyone. The Q & A’s were choice. Was very funny when I was interviewing Joe Bob Briggs and we ended up hosting our very own Q & A…unofficially! You see we were trying to sit down somewhere where we could hear better. Mr. Briggs chose the Main Event Room. Don’t blame him, it was in between shows. Well people started to show up for Dee Wallace’s Q & A…and we just kept going. That was until Dee showed up and we had to leave…lol…Another great moment in my life!

The rest of the day was spent in the Celebrity room finishing up interviews and shooting the shit with the lovely Jessica Cameron. Words can’t describe it…really they can’t. I was so sad to leave, but you know…I left with positive advice from Raven and Jessica Cameron. It has served me well. Met some awesome people from this place called The Movie Studio. Hopefully I’ll be able to review their new film staring Corey Feldman, Exposure. I also met some awesome awesome dude from a group called Muscle Wolf Productions. You guys keep an eye out for them, because we are so covering them!!
In Conclusion…
Not a bad show at all. It had some problems…but what first show doesn’t have issues. Every first year has them, just try to iron them out for the next show. I loved it and will be going back…but where does it find it self on the Top Hat Scale? To be honest…5 out 5 Top Hats Why? A lot of stuff that was bad was either because of a Tropical Storm or First Year Problems. If this was a show in its 3rd or 4th year…then yeah..we could knock it. We all had fun, we all loved it, we are all going back, and others are too. It reminded me of old times…good times.
For those that may be interested, yesterday the next Florida Fatality fest was announced for October 11-13th in Ft. Lauderdale. I’ll tell you more as I find it out. Just look out people…because here Fatality Fest comes! I have more interviews coming soon. Please be patient…

Fatality Fest 2013 Right around the Corner!!!
So I’m excited as all hell that the inaugural event for Fatality Fest is in just less than two weeks! Can’t wait for little Psychotik to get to meet Ernie Hudson (I can’t either I freakin love Ghostbusters!) Dee Wallace, Butch Patrick, J. Larose, Timothy Patrick Quill, Oliver Robins, Linnea Quigley, and much more. Heck, I’m not familiar with Jimmyo and April Burril, but you know what they look cool as hell and like my sort of people! They have a Zombie Walk on Friday, movie showings, a SOLD OUT dealers room…I mean we got us a perfect storm people! If you are in South Florida the 7th through the 9th I think I know where the heck you should be. So with all of this positive going on…why is their negetivity? Well you see folks, some aren’t as happy as we are….
You see this convention since being announced has found itself with a bit of resistance. I won’t…name names…it’s not polite. But there does lurk a foul presence in the air. Even my little ghouls and henchman have caught the foul oder of rumors and waste being spewed about this show. Rumors of celebrities being threatened. Told that if they did this show, they would be banned from other shows. Dealers being lied to and threatened. Even rumors that the event wasn’t going to happen. Someone is a little scared. You see Darlings, the Convention scene is a dark shady business almost reminiscent of the old mobster era of the early 19th century. It shouldn’t be, but it is. Little convention promoters treating states like it’s their personal playground and no one plays in their freakin’ sandbox without their say. I say to hell with them. Who do they think they are. And it takes great people to stand up to that. People I have met like Adolfo Dorta…and one I’ve gotten to know recently, Andrea Albin. So why am I mentioning this?…well I feel it should mention. Because if they…these supposed best are afraid of a first year show…then their must be a reason. If THEY have to lie and try to cheat to make their event better or appear that way…their must be a reason why. The reason is…this show is going to kick some Serious ASS!
Like I said…I won’t name names. I don’t think I have to…you see most will put two and two together. Most may even be closer to the situation and put all together rather fast as the party involved has a bad history of burning bridges. Fatality Fest is going to be the next premier event in Florida Freaky Darlings! Don’t miss out on history! I have faith this show will do well…don’t settle for the monoply…let’s promote a little diversity in the horror community in this great state. Fatality Fest 2013 News!!!
Sup Freaky Darlings!? You all better get used to hearing about Fatality Fest, because this show sounds like it’s going to be epic as all get out! I have a press announcement for film makers, a press announcement for bands, guest announcements…..and a surprise!!! First a message brought to us by Mrs. Andrea Albin about the Film Fest:

Fatality Fear Fest is now accepting entries into our first annual competition as a part of Fatality Fest horror convention, June 7th-9th, 2013 in West Palm Beach, FL!
Competitors with short films, less than 20 minutes in length, are invited to submit their project online. All official rules and submission requirements can be found on the official website:

Entries are accepted through April 20th. Five finalists will be chosen by Scott Spiegel to have their films showcased on Sunday, June 9th at the convention. The winner will be chosen by the attending audience.

Fatality Fest is proud to present our very own BATTLE OF THE BANDS contest on Saturday night at 11pm- that’s AFTER our VIP Party! Bands will be invited to register beginning MARCH 15TH! And you guessed it… we’re bringing in a special celebrity judge to MC the entire thing! Local and national bands- we want you!
As far as guest announcements go, we now have Camille Keaton (I spit on your Grave 1978), Butch Patrick (Eddie in “The Munsters”), and Ernie—wait for it—Hudson (Ghostbusters, The Crow). I’m super excited! They should have more announcements later this week. I can’t wait to see who’s next. With a power house like ADA Management behind it, the sky is the limit I suppose. Either way…all you bands and film makers out there reading this in internet land—GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!!! Send in those short films! Get ready for a war of guitars and metal (I’m looking at you Finding Every Altar Ruined!!!)
